Skylanders Giants has sold over 160 per cent more units than last year's Skylanders did at launch in the US.

And compared to the 2011 launch of the Skylanders video game/toy hybrid, Giants' US launch saw close to four times the unit sales generated by accessories.

NPD industry analyst Liam Callahan said: "Skylanders Giants software performed well, breaking into the top 10 title ranking, and selling over 160 per cent more units than last year’s Skylanders title did in its debut month at retail.”

Activision's Skylanders Giants - which launched last month - is the follow-up to last year's Skylanders.

Skylanders figures are not classed as toys by sales data firm NPD in the UK, and do not count towards toy retail's sales units and value.
