A project enabling you to travel through time to visit the places of some the world’s most eminent scientists all through the power of Augmented Reality has hit Kickstarter.

Today is Art Day, the Canadian team behind a recent swathe of action figures based on world-famous artists has launched its latest project, this time taking on the world of science and famed scientists.

It’s called The Historical Figures and it kicks off with a crowdfunding campaign to see the production of action figures resembling Albert Einstein, Marie Curie and Nikola Tesla. Th figures are billed as educative action figures and stand at five inches tall and come with facts about the character.

But the project doesn’t end there. For the first time in the company’s own history, it is launching a corresponding app that through the power of AR will open a portal to the world of each scientist.

By downloading the app, users can then scan their scientist action figure. This will then open a Augmented Reality doorway that once stepped through, and via their mobile device, they can explore either Albert Einstein’s lecture theatre, Marie Curie’s laboratory or Nikola Tesla’s experimentation lab.

“We are thrilled to bring this new line of figurines to life and to introduce a digital aspect to our product with this immersive AR app,” said The History Figures creator, David Beaulieu.

“We have been working on the idea of branching out from art history and into other themes for a while. For us, science was the perfect way to venture into other chapters of our history. This new brand, The Historical Figures will allow us to explore more themes in the future.”

The campaign now on Kickstarter has so far secured £14,366 of its £17,818 goal - $30,000 Canadian - with 23 days remaining on the site.
