Playfusion scores success at TIGA

Cambridge-based games developer was a big winner at the the TIGA awards, held at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London last week.

This year’s Games Industry Awards was organised by TIGA, the network for games developers and digital publishers and the trade association representing the video games industry.

The group celebrated the best in games, business and education in the video games industry, awarding Lightseekers the Technical Innovation award. 

The 50-strong firm, which has studios in the UK and the USA, also scooped the best small Independent Studio award for the work on their innovative game/toy hybrid project.

“We were delighted to see the passion and hard work from our entire team recognised by the Industry," commented CEO and co-founder, Mark Gerhard.

"To leave with two prestigious awards was a real privilege and honour, we are very thankful to the judging panel for selecting us as their winners. It has been a whirlwind two years as we worked hard to bring our platform as well as first game title, Lightseekers, to market this summer and these award wins will only spur us on more we set our sights on an even bigger year in 2018!”

TIGA’s judges recognised that PlayFusion has developed breakthrough artificial intelligence and robotics technologies to enable immersive mixed-reality experiences. Together, these comprise the world’s first comprehensive mixed-reality platform spanning Computer Vision, Audio Recognition, IOT Hardware, Machine Learning and Deep Data.

“We are thrilled that PlayFusion has received two fantastic accolades at the TIGA Games Industry Awards” added Nicola Jenkins, head of marketing UK at TOMY. “The Lightseekers collection brings something very exciting to the market and there is lots more to come as we have big plans to expand our range in 2018.”

Lightseeker toys utilise the unique FusionCore, a high-tech, powerful mini-computer embedded within each action figure and the “brains” behind the smart connected toys which completely eliminates the need for cumbersome NFC portals, delivering real time two-way interaction between 7” articulated smart action figures and the Lightseekers game.
