Toys R Us chairman and CEO Jerry Storch has revealed that Lalaloopsy, the multi-faceted rag doll brand from MGA Entertainment, was the retailer's top selling toy over Black Friday.

Sales were also strong for Wow Stuff’s inflatable flying fish Air Swimmers, Let’s Rock Elmo from Hasbro and Activision’s Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure.

Storch told reporters that LeapFrog's Leapster 2 also sold well. Sales of the Leapster 2 – an older LeapFrog system released in 2008 – were helped by a 50 per cent discount and the scarcity of this year's must-have kids tablet, the LeapPad.

Storch also said that the Sylvania seven-inch Android tablet sold well. He said: "Everyone wants their children to have a tablet, but not everyone wants to spend $500 for an iPad that children can throw onto the floor."

US Toys R Us stores opened at 9pm on Thanksgiving, remaining open overnight until 10pm on Friday.
