US: Toys R Us clinches exclusive Rio merchandise

Aim to make Stateside stores 'Rio?s ultimate retail destination'.

Toys R Us has teamed up with Twentieth Century Fox to secure an exclusive line of toys, video games and books inspired by the 3D animated film, Rio.

The products will launch in US stores ahead of the release on April 15th, where customers will be able to get a sneak peak at the film.

Nine-inch interactive plushes of Blu and Jewel are expected to be a big seller, as is the seven-inch walking and talking plush Luiz bulldog.

To incentivise purchases of the Rio video game, Toys R Us is offering customers exclusive bonus DVDs filled with trailers, unseen content from the film and original featurettes which will not be shown in the cinema.

Completing the exclusive range are storybooks from HarperCollins, colour and activity books from Modern Publishing, and a look-and-find book from Publications International.

"Rio is expected to be one of the most captivating family films of 2011 and we are supporting its release by creating the ultimate retail destination for fans at Toys"R"Us stores,” said Robert Marick, executive VP, Fox Consumer Products.
