American Girl, the Mattel subsidiary, has confirmed it is closing down its US call centre and distribution facility in Wilmot, Wisconsin.

The move will impact on some 135 jobs.

The distribution centre will close on June 29 this year and the call centre is slated for closure during the first quarter of 2019. Warehouse work will be absorbed into the brand’s facilities in DeForest and Middleton.

American Girl will hire workers at these facilities to handle the additional duties. Mattel is scheduled to announce its first-quarter earnings on April 26.

Launched in 1986 by the Pleasant Company, who was later bought by Mattel, the line was created to showcase an ethnically diverse line of girls from different time periods.

More than 30 million of these popular dolls have been sold since manufacturing began.

Such is the following behind American Girl that the brand has recently detailed its move to the stage with a live musical show in production. A North America tour will kick off this autumn with a show produced by both American Girl and Mills Entertainment, the company behind Daniel Tiger Live.
