Toys R Us has revealed its top 20 Christmas toy line up, containing what it believes are 'certain to be the hottest favourites of this year.'

If last year was the year of the tablet, then the toy retailer is predicting a return to the classics this season, with action, role play and craft toys all profiling high on Toys R Us' popularity stakes.

Mike Coogan, marketing and eCommerce director at Toys R Us, said: "This year's outstanding line up once again demonstrates the knowledge and versatility we have within our industry and the ability to adapt and respond to ever-changing markets, whether it be popular role play and action toys, or technology and virtual world gaming platforms, which are entering households at a phenomenal rate."

The retailer predicts that the Furby Boom is set to perform well on the tech toy scale, alongside robotic fish, Robofish.

LEGO also features in the 'Terrific Twenty' with its City Coast Guard Patrol range. In addition, the app inspired Angry Birds Star Wars Telepods join the line up. Meanwhile, older kids will be clambering for the Nerf Elite RapidStrike, according to the firm.

In the dolls section, the firm predicts Monster High 13 Wishes and Flutterby Flying Fairy will cause a stir this year. For pre-schoolers, TV character Doc McStuffins makes the list with her Doctor's bag Set, while Chasin' Cheeky is predicted to get kids active this Christmas season.

Elsewhere, the Kurio S Range joins HolograFX, the LeapPad Ultra and Kidizoom Twist Plus Camera make the list.

Other toys included in the 'Terrific Twenty' include the Slushy Maker Cup, the Cra Z Loom bracelet maker and new Disney Infinty sets.

Toys R Us also states that the Playstation 4 and Xbox One are 'certain to go head to head' as they hit retail this season.

Mike Coogan continued: "We have the expertise to pull together a good all round selection of gifts representing a compilation of all of the favourites that are expected to be the most popular toys.

"The size and ability of our stores to display not just one toy from a range, but a full selection, adds depth to our knowledge of key lines.

"We have a broad selection of craft toys, board games and an abundance of outdoor toys, bikes and games tables in the UK, which has enabled us to assess the most popular gift choices."
