The retail giant has said in a statement that it has no immediate plans to set up in India.

The statement was released after various news sources, including the Economic Times, Namnews and Franchise India reported a link between the two companies.

Toys R Us vice president of corporate communications, Kathleen Waugh, said: "While Toys R Us is always looking for good business opportunities in new markets, we have no plans at this time to open stores in India."

Waugh said the speculation that the company is in the process of signing up a joint venture agreement with an Indian partner is not accurate.
