The Entertainer raises £1m for charity through Pennies scheme

The Entertainer has raised a total of £1million for eight different UK charities over the last four years, thanks to a partnership with the digital charity box, Pennies.

The multi-channel toy retailer was one of the first firms to sign up to the microdonation scheme back in 2011, a system that allows customers to make a small donation to charity when paying by card.

The Entertainer has always played an active role in raising money for charity, and before the partnership with Pennies was raising around £2,000 a year via traditional charity collection boxes.

The retailer had raised over £100,000 for numerous charities within only six months of its partnership with Pennies.

“The introduction of Pennies to our stores has been a fantastic way to collect for so many worthy causes,” said Gary Grant, founder of The Entertainer.

“Without the continuous generosity of our customers, The Entertainer wouldn’t have achieved this charitable milestone which undoubtedly will have a significant impact on our local children’s hospitals.”

Alison Hutchinson, Pennies chief executive, added: “The Entertainer was Pennies’ first in-store retailer to embrace the micro-donations movement. It was clear from day one that customers felt good about giving – and this huge £1m milestone shows what a difference these pennies can make over four short years.”
