The Entertainer has been short-listed for 2012 Pay and Benefits award.

The national toy retailer, which donates a substantial 10 per cent of its annual profits to family and children’s projects and is also part of the Geared for Giving Campaign, a tax efficient way for staff to support charities of their choice.

Over a quarter of The Entertainer’s staff now give more than £5 of their monthly pay packet to charity through the scheme.

What’s more, The Entertainer has also chosen to match its staff’s charity by adding 50 per cent to the total monthly donation.

Gary Grant, managing director of The Entertainer, said: "Our staff have always been hugely generous in supporting and giving but our challenge was to expand and facilitate the 'giving' habit and also provide charities with regular donations which allow them to plan for the future."

He added: "We are not an investment bank or a big city firm; we are a family business, growing steadily, employing honest, hard working people. Yet the response to the launch of the scheme has been amazing; it just shows that even when times are tough most people really want to support the most vulnerable members of our community. I hope our staff's generosity will encourage other employers to really embrace Workplace Giving and provide their employees with the same opportunity to give."
