This week Tesco has stepped up its toy presence with a two-page editorial spread in the Daily Mirror.

Under the headline Kids Test Top Toys the Mirror wrote: “With just 24 shopping days until Christmas toys are a trusted billion-pound battleground where the festive war could be won or lost.”

The red top asked Tesco to produce a list of ten Christmas toys and then got a group of school children to test them. Included in the piece is a price chart comparing the supermarket's prices with Smyths, Amazon, Argos and Toys R Us.

Tesco is also advertising a selection of its discounts in a full-pager in the Mirror. The family-focused ad shows discounts on three toys: the Fireman Sam Easel and Sit n Play Art Desk from Sambro and Charater’s Zhu Zhu Puppies Bark Park.

Argos is promoting its half price toy sale with a page in most of the nationals today, outlining savings on nine different products. The retailer is also offering a £5 voucher to customers spending over £50.
