Outdoor toys boost John Lewis figures

Warm weather causes a surge in sales of seasonal products.

The retailer has reported a 12 per cent increase in sales year-on-year for the week ended May 22nd. Sales for the period were £50.83 million, compared to £45.37 million in 2009.

Simon Russell, head of multi channel, said: "Outdoor toys were flying out with customers preparing for half term."

The retailer also recently won the Which award for Best Online Retailer.

Russell continued: "The online selling team have worked very hard to create an inspiring and easy website for our customers and continue to be supported by equally passionate partners across our shops and head office, making buying online an integral part of a John Lewis customer experience these days."
