Now Mothercare plans stores in Iraq

Firm is looking to expand its international reach further with an outlet in Kurdish North capital Arbil.

The retailer already has outlets in Azerbijan and Uzbekistan, with a burgeoning international business, which accounts for around 60 per cent of all sales.

Ben Gordon, chief executive of Mothercare, said: “Iraq has 30 million people – clearly it’s a country with a lot of potential.

"We’re Alshaya’s first brand there. We were the first in Syria. We tend to be the lead brand, the brand that works best."
