Around 60 firefighters were brought in to tackle a fire at the hotel which started around 5am this morning.

Toymaster's spring show is due to be held there from May 18th-20th. It's not yet known whether the blaze will affect plans for the show at this stage.

Group manager Jonathan Foster, of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The fifth floor is severely damaged by fire.

“We have had to remove part of the roof and it’s likely the hotel will be out of action for some time. The Grand Dining Room has sustained severe water damage."

A police spokesman said the fire was being treated as "potentially suspicious". Furthermore, one member of staff is currently unnaccounted for, according to reports.
