The owner of the Cambridge toy shop, Lighthouse Toys has set up a GoFundMe page to pay for specialist equipment after she was struck with an undiagnosed illness four years ago.

Samantha Broad, who owns the Lighthouse Toys shop with her husband Tim, became ill in 2014 which has resulted in her needing a specialist wheelchair to get outside the house.

Over the years, Broad has been three different department: mitochondrial diseases, metabolics and neurology at The National Hospital for Neurology in London. However, while she has had to relinquish the shop running duties over to her parents and husband, Broad has still not had her illness diagnosed.

Broad manages to only visit her shop occasionally, and when she is feeling well enough, she still manages the toy buying from home via email and phone.

Broad is looking to raise £22,000 in order to purchase the specialist wheelchair that would give the toyshop owner back some freedom, the ability to leave her house and take a more active role in her business once again.

“My current chair doesn’t support my body well and Tim is struggling to push me as his wrists are weak,” Broad says via her GoFundMe page. “This means our trips out of the house are a struggle. I would love to be able to go out for day trips again. I want to be able to spend time with my children before they leave home and to make up for all the lost day trips, holidays and ‘normal’ life.”
