John Lewis has released its predictions for the top five best selling toys for this Christmas, inspired by children's dreams of what they want to be when they grow up.

The firm's charts of children's dream jobs have been topped with professions including chefs, architects, detectives and doctors.

Among those predicted to cause a stir this year, John Lewis places its Mini Kitchen, retailing at £50 to be a best seller, alongside the John Lewis exclusive, Christmas Furby.

Ian Ellis, toy buyer at John Lewis, said: "This year the toy assortment at John Lewis is bigger and better.

"With Furbys selling out in record time last year, we expect there furry friends to be another huge hit with parents and children.

"Taking tips from Britain's favourite television shows such as The Apprentice and Jamie's 30 Minute Meals, the next generation are inspired to recreate these professions as home with creative and innovative play."

Hot on the heels of the Mini Kitchen set, and inspiring kids to be 'the next Sherlock Holmes' is the Watch and Pen set, retailing at £15, while the Doc Mcstuffins is predicted to be a big hit with the aspiring doctors this season.

For 'budding architects' the LEGO Creator Winter Village Cottage, retailing at £89.99, is set to be another top seller, followed by the John Lewis exclusive, the Christmas Furby.
