John Lewis enjoys Easter boost for outdoor toys

Following a period of warm weather, retailer reports growth in sales of outdoor toys.

In general, the stores suffered a 6.7 per cent fall in sales to £45.4 million last week (ending April 4th), the eleventh successive week of year-on-year declines.

Toys, however, were one of the few areas which bucked the trend and saw a rise in sales.

In a statement, the retailer said: “Toys, especially outdoor, continue to grab market share and take advantage of the weather, and this can only accelerate with the school holidays now running.”

None of the group's stores beat last year's numbers, and John Lewis Direct fell 2.1 per cent, against a 4.6 per cent rise for the first nine weeks of the year.
