John Lewis ends free click and collect on orders under £30

The retailer has cited the current service of free deliver for smaller items as 'unsustainable' in its plans to take leadership of the future of the service.

John Lewis is ending its run of free click and collect for orders under £30 from the end of next month.

The retail giant will be introducing a £2 charge for smaller orders, citing the current free service it offers as ‘unsustainable’.

The firm has said that the move would only affect about 20 per cent of orders and hopes that the initiative will encourage customers to group their smaller items together.

The scheme currently allows consumers to order items from the John Lewis website and have it delivered to their nearest John Lewis or Waitrose store for free.

In a speech declaring the firm’s new stance on click and collect and desire to “take a leadership position” in the future of the service, Andy Street, the retailer’s managing director said the company “is sure customers will understand why we are doing this.

“It’s illogical that this can be produced at no cost.”
