IKEA launches soft toy range designed by kids in 2015 charity campaign

IKEA has launched a new collection of soft toys designed for children, by children as part of its Soft Toys for Education Campaign.

The new range has been designed by kids from across the globe as part of a Soft Toys Drawing Competition that tasked children to ‘let their imaginations run wild.’

As part of the charity campaign, proceeds from sales of the specially designed range of soft toys will be donated to UNICEF and Save the Children.

From thousands of entries, ten lucky winners were picked to be given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of having their drawing recreated as part of a limited edition range to be sold wordwide.

Among the winners, eight-year-old British schoolgirl Olivia Wildman has been selected for her drawing of a fluffy skunk called Stinky who will go on sale in stores across the world from this week.

Stinky joins a selection of other toys including a tiger, scary dinosaur, blue one-eyed blob and a mysterious creature with grip-friendly ears.

Carol McSeveney, IKEA Children’s sales leader, UK and Ireland, said: “At IKEA, we see children as the most important people in the world.

“We believe every child has the right to a healthy, secure childhood and access to quality education, no matter where in the world they live. And because we value doing things together, we turn to our irresistible soft toys for help.

“The final creations show that anything is possible with children’s imaginations. We fell in love with Olivia’s drawing when we first saw it, and we have stayed true to her illustration, right down to the little legs and quizzical expression that give it a character all of its own.”

For every soft toy, children’s book, dressing up clothes and children’s card game sold between October 18 and December 19th this year, IKEA Foundation will donate €1 to support educational programmes run by UNICEF and Save the Children around the world.

This year, IKEA hopes to raise €700,000 in the UK and Ireland to add to a total of €77million since it began in 2003.
