The retailer is set to open the stores throughout 2009 with Reliance Retail, a division of India’s largest private conglomerate, in one of the biggest international expansions by the retail giant.

The plans continue the company’s global expansion programme throughout this year and next.

In June, Hamleys launched in Jordan’s Amman; October will see the opening of a 32,000 square foot store in the Dubai Mall and the opening of the first European stand-alone store in Dundrum Town Centre in Dublin.

Hamleys India will replicate the magical and experiential elements of its flagship store on London’s Regent Street and will sell a wide range of toys from modern brands to more traditional and nostalgic toys.

Products on offer will also include an own brand range. Toy demonstrators and magicians will bring the store to life as well as well as a host of events and activities.

Paul Currie, Trading Director of Hamleys, said:

“We are thrilled to be bringing the magic of Hamleys to India, where we have already received such a warm welcome! It’s going to be a fantastic and exciting stage in our international development and we are sure that our Indian customers will love the magical elements of Hamleys.”
