Hamleys is to open its first stand-alone European store in Dundrum Town Centre, south of Dublin.
The store is scheduled to open in October 2008. It will occupy 37,000 sq ft over three floors and look to employ around 60 people. The store will replicate the flagship London store, selling a wide range of products including the Hamleys own brand.
Demonstrations will be held in-store as will exclusive product launches. There will be a fun2learn area for pre-school children, magicians, a teddy bear park, puppet area, and rally dome plus a café. Special events to be held include face painting, character visits, treasure hunts, trails and competitions. Hamleys Dundrum will also offer facilities to hire for private parties and events.
Paul Currie, Hamleys trading director, said: “This is our first stand-alone store outside Regent Street and continues our programme of global expansion. A considerable portion of our overseas customers are Irish and we are looking forward to growing this customer base.’
The iconic retailer has recently opened a concession in Belfast as part of the new Victoria Square shopping Centre and a travel-related store in the Eurostar Terminal at St Pancras. It also plans to open stores in the Dubai, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia in 2009 as part of a $6 million franchise deal.
