The project is powered by online gift retailer Firebox.com, where record breakers choose from a selection of 18 gifts, add their own personalised message and have them sent to a random participant of Global Secret Santa for £9 (including P&P).
Participants will then receive a mystery gift from another unknown participant somewhere in the world with a personal message just for you.
Firebox launched Global Secret Santa on November 11th, 2009 and has quickly been inundated with orders from Norway, Denmark, Malta, Australia and Brazil. The e-tailer predicts the campaign will become a huge hit in the run up to Christmas as word spreads around the world.
Christian Robinson, managing director of Firebox.com said: “Global Secret Santa is all about surprising and connecting people. To think that there will be people this Christmas getting gifts from strangers they’ve never met, from the other side of the world is just amazing.
"The buzz has been brilliant so far and we are thrilled about the prospect of setting a new world record."
