Black Friday is becoming a date of growing importance to the UK toy retailer, according to the independent toy buying group, Toymaster.

This year sees the group back the one day sales event by offering its retail members Black Friday POS and encouraging them to take part in the event that continues to pick up steam across the country.

Toymaster is providing its members with various Black Friday POS, black banners, black balloons, Black Friday signage and a catalogue of suggested sale items.

The move comes as the buying group declares the one day sales event – taking place this Friday, November 27th – as ‘a date of growing importance to the UK consumer.’

“This is the first year that we have gone all out it like this,” Ian Edmunds, managing director at Toymaster told ToyNews.

“Last year we saw Black Friday pick up a lot of steam and we see it becoming bigger and bigger over here.”

Black Friday is typically a US tradition that was only recently adopted by retailers across the UK, with Amazon being the first to bring it to the country in 2010.

Last year, the day of discount prices saw fights and mobs break out in the middle of retailers and this year is expected to yield over £1billion in UK sales.

“Of course we don’t expect our retailers fighting off the kinds of crowds that the major retailers do at this time of year, and we know that not all of our retailers will join in with it,” said Edmunds.

“I do suggest that they do, though, as it is a big day for retail. Black Friday is a great day to signal the start of Christmas spend, it gets consumers in the mindset of spending money on presents and we can only see it getting bigger here.”
