Through the magic of 3D printing you can now put your own head on Lego Minifigures, Playmobil men and more.

Simply send a couple of photos of yourself to Firebox and they will send you a miniature copy of your head designed to slot onto a toy of your choice.

Firebox explains how it works: "These noggins utilise a remarkable 3D mapping and modelling process that moulds a to-scale head from just a couple of photos. It’s just like being in a sci-fi film, seriously."

Despite being rather pricey, ranging from £39.99 to £79.99, the printed heads have been a strong seller for the quirky online retailer. It's no wonder really, because who wouldn't want to have a toy version of themselves?

Speaking to ToyNews, Paul Broomfield, Firebox’s head of personalised, said: "3D printed heads have been selling really well for us.

"They come in three different sizes so they really allow your imagination to run wild; the heads fit on all sorts of different sized bodies, from Lego Minifigures to Starwars characters through to six-inch action figures up to huge 12-inch and 1/6 scale-size dolls."

The printed heads aren’t just for boys either - there are even sizes that will fit onto Barbie dolls.

Broomfield revealed that Firebox was looking into even more 3D printed products. (The retailer’s first venture using the technology was its Personalised Superhero Action Figures.)

He said: "For the future, we are looking at making the heads fit even more body types and are even looking at making a version that will attach to a keyring - imagine having a tiny version of yourself in your pocket.

"3D printing allows us to develop loads of great ideas so we are researching other products that aren't head related. Watch this space..."
