Argos has partnered with supermarket giant, Sainsbury’s to open a raft of new format, digital stores within existing Sainsbury’s stores.

Ten new stores, ranging in size from 1,000 to over 5,000 square feet will offer shoppers a choice of over 20,000 non-grocery products.

Shoppers will be able buy products in store using tablets or reserve online for collection. The firm states that an extended range of around 40,000 products can also be ordered in store for home delivery.

The move is part of Argos’ parent company Home Retail Group’s plans to ramp up its digital offering.

Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s has forecast that over the next five years, around 25 per cent of its store estate will ‘feature under utilized space,’ making partnerships such as this a priority for the retailer.

The ten digital stores will open by summer this year, however the location of each is yet to be confirmed.
