Consumers seem to love the idea of toys based on hit characters from TV ads – now they’re about to get another one.

Forget Compare the Meerkat plush and the EDF Energy Zingy blob; Argos is preparing to launch a range of alien toys based on the extra terrestrial family from its TV ads.

Last summer, Argos said it was "looking at" the possibility of turning the aliens into toys. Now it's making them a reality.

The collectable son and daughter Rufus and Astrid alien figures will be available from Monday, March 25th, priced at £12.99 each.

Suitable for ages three years and above, each poseable figure features a flocked blue finish. Both characters come dressed in their favourite outfits - Rufus in a hoodie and jeans, and Astrid in a stripy top and skirt.

They will be available via argos.co.uk, on the Argos mobile site and iPad app. Customers can also use 'Check & Reserve' to pick them up from any UK Argos store.

The alien family first appeared on TV screens back in November 2011.

Andrea Abbis, Toys Trading Manager at Argos, said: "The response from our customers to the aliens has been out of this world so we’ve launched the figures for fans of all ages to enjoy.

"We’re expecting them to become real collectables and mum and dad alien may even follow later this year."

Marc Spence, Argos’ trading director for toys, freetime and jewellery, told ToyNews: "The alien family from our advertising campaign has proved enormously popular with our customers and we’ve received hundred of requests for alien toys."

Argos also owns the Chad Valley toy brand.
