Argos rescues Chad Valley brand

Argos's parent company Home Retail has acquired the Chad Valley toy brand from the wreckage of Woolies for £5m.

The evergreen brand was established in the early nineteenth century and was bought by Woolworths in 1988.

"Chad Valley will complement Argos' existing toy business and help to consolidate Argos' position as the number one toy retailer in the UK," said the firm in a statement.

It has purchased the exclusive use of the Chad Valley name and all associated trademarks worldwide.
