1m more tween girls playing online

Gaming is now tween girls' third favourite pastime after using the internet and watching TV.

More tween girls are playing games and reaching toy brands online, as UK monthly active users grew to 2.5 million.

This is up 56 per cent year-on-year from 1.6 million – almost 1 million more than 2011's figure.

Data from Newzoo shows that in the US, UK and France, tween girls now list online gaming as their third favourite pastime, after browsing the internet and watching TV. 

Spil Games' says the average time tween girls spend on its GirlsGoGames website has increased 31 per cent year-on-year, from 35 minutes to 46 minutes per month.

Several toy companies already have their own online gaming hubs, including Mattel, Hasbro, Lego and more.
