#ToyLikeMe's Kickstarter campaign for new online hub passes £16,000 target

The funds will go towards launching a website resource celebrating toys which represent disability has been successful.

#ToyLikeMe's crowdfunding campaign to raise enough money to launch a website resource celebrating toys which represent disability has been successful.

The campaign aimed to raise £16,000 and finished with a grand total of £16,780.

The finished site will celebrate disability in toys, advise parents and carers looking for representative toys and continue consulting and calling on the global toy industry to include disabled children in the cultural mainstream.

"I'm having to gather myself up off the floor and wipe away some seriously fat happy slightly exhausted tears to write this," said ToyLikeMe founder Rebecca Atkinson.

"Thank you to each and every one of you amazing people who have backed our crowdfund. I never imagined we would smash our target and then some. I never imagined when #ToyLikeMe started in April last year that so many people would believe in it. I never imagined when I've been up in the late night writing about how the world need fairies with hearing aids and wizards with white canes that I could actually make it happen. I never imagined I could get Playmobil and LEGO to really start changing the way they represent disabled kids. I never imagined I could actually create some real tangible change for 150 million kids. But we can and we will. Kaboom!"

ToyLikeMe is aiming to have the website up and running by summer 2016.
