Toy Fair 2019: Wild Card Games makes play for YA gaming market with two Toy Fair launches

Wild Card Games is making a play for the YA card and board gaming market with the introduction of its latest titles Guessed List and 1st to Worst.

The independent outfit - best known for its best-selling game Maponimoes - is looking to plug a gap in a market it believes remains 'vastly underserved', despite the surge in popularity the gaming sector has witnessed in the last three years.

Sean Byrne, owner of Wild Card Games told ToyNews that with the launch of its latest titles Guessed List, a guessing game that can be played by teams of individuals and 1st to Worst, billed as the ‘ideal icebreaker and conversation starter’, the business is expanding into a growth market with plenty of potential for the year ahead.

“I come from a marketing background and know where there’s an opportunity when I see one,” Byrne told ToyNews. “And I see one with these two new titles. I haven’t seen anyone else deliver the game play to the YA market the way that we are with Guessed List and 1st to Worst, so this is an exciting move for us.”

Based on conversations around people’s preferences, 1st to Worst tasks players to correctly guess another’s order of preference from three choices. It is aimed at ages 14 and upwards. Meanwhile, Guessed List encourages players to shout out as many answers as they can within 30 seconds to correctly answer each question card. It’s a game aimed at 14 year olds and upwards.

Both are currently on display at the Wild Card Games stand this London Toy Fair where the firm is offering 10 per cent discount on orders places at the show, with five per cent discount across all other titles.
