ToonStar Toys heads to Kickstarter with pop culture inspired collectables

The unofficial caricatures resemble the likes of Austin Powers, Terminator and The A-Team

Some familiar faces are taking to Kickstarter this month, as ToonStar Toys readies its campaign to bring iconic film and TV characters to toys and collectables.

Resembling the likes of Austin Powers, Ghost Busters and The A-Team, you could be forgiven for thinking that ToonStar's line of miniature figures were the real licensed deal.

But with names such as Mojo, Spirit Hunters and The Bling Team, ToonStar insists the line is based on original artwork and is not official merchandise.

As part of it's Kickstarter project, ToonStar Toys will be offering its initial collection of figures as limited edition box sets, featuring the characters in an acrylic case with serialised ID cards.

A division of ToonStar - a company boasting a portfolio of partners for products featuring the unofficial caricatures - ToonStar Toys is already reporting great response to its new line, following its attendance at this year's Spring Fair.

"The figures have received a very good reaction," said ToonStar Toys director, David Kanter.

"Especially from distributors and stockists of the ToonStar brand as they see them as a great complimentary product."

The collection has also been met with positive reaction across Europe.

"The brand is also very strong in Europe," continued Kanter. "As an example, a large stockist of the apparel, with nine stores in Europe, is very interested in the products."

With over 200 characters in its portfolio of artwork, ToonStar has plenty to keep it occupied for the time being, but insists that if it's Kickstarter is achieved, it will get to work on developing further additions soon after.
