Having proven itself on Kickstarter only last week, the team behind the Board Game Book has secured countrywide distribution through Asmodee UK.

A compendium reviews and interviews with the designers responsible for some of the best-loved tabletop, hobby and board games in the space at the moment, the title has taken another step towards being made available in every gaming store in the UK.

Created by a team of journalists and board game experts, the Board Game Book flew past its crowdfunding goal of £15,000 late last week with backing from nearly 500 fans of the hobby.

Within a matter of days of clearing the target, the team – now on its way to hitting the £17,000 mark – secured a distribution deal with the UK’s largest hobby game company, Asmodee UK.

“We’re delighted to be working with Asmodee UK to distribute The Board Game Book,” said editor Owen Duffy. “They’re the UK’s main distributor of hobby games, and it means we’ll be able to get the book into every game store in the country.

“Games retailers are a huge part of the growth and success of the hobby. They’re more than just shops, they’re community hubs running game nights and tournaments and giving people a place to connect over their shared lov of tabletop gaming. It definitely makes sense for the book to be on the shelves right next to the games it covers, and we think that not only is it going to sell well in its own right, but it’s going to spark players’ interest in new games to add to their collections.”

With just over a week left of campaigning, the Board Game Book Kickstarter project sits at £16,511 from 495 backers. The title aims to represent the spectrum of board gaming from kids and family games to miniatures and roleplaying games.

It will also feature a Get Into Gaming section aimed at new players, or those looking for gateway games to introduce friends to the hobby. Duffy and the publishing aim to make the title an annual celebration of the gaming space.

“We’re absolutely thrilled with the success of our Kickstarter campaign, and we’re incredibly grateful to the backers who have made the project possible,” continued Dufy.

“We want to ensure this is more than just a one-off project. We want to support the book beyond the crowdfunding process, get it into retail and provide a lasting benefit to the hobby.”
