In honour of national scrabble day and the games' 70th anniversary, Hasbro is adding 300 new words to Sixth Edition of Merriam-Webster’s The Official Scrabble Player’s Dictionary.

The dictionary will be published on September 17th, at which time players will be able to begin racking up points with a variety of newly playable words including 'emoji', 'ew', 'facepalm', 'macaron', 'puggle', and 'sriracha'.

New words are added to The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary only if they meet specific criteria as laid out in the game’s rules: words must be found in a standard dictionary and cannot be abbreviations, capitalized words, or words containing hyphens or apostrophes. All words must also be between two – eight letters in length. The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary was last updated in 2014

Lastly, to extend the 70th anniversary celebration of Scrabble, over 200 players will be going head-to-head at the annual Hasbro Gaming Championship at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia from April 28th - 29th where children from all across the country will compete in the annual North American School Scrabble Game Championship and the North American School Rubik’s Cube Championship.
