LEGO reveals app-controlled Batmobile in its new Powered Up range

LEGO has detailed a new connected toy line called Powered Up in an announcement culminating in the big reveal of its first set in the series: an app-controlled Batmobile.

The new LEGO Powered Up line will consist of multiple products that vary in complexity and will feature battery powered, remote controlled and app-controlled sets.

Kicking off with the Batmobile, the new launch can be controlled through two pre-built remote interfaces on the companion Powered Up iOS app, or through a remote that users can personalise with sliders and buttons.

A new coding interface will also be released this year, allowing kids to code speed, direction, sound and duration to create new stunts and movements.

The Batmobile will be release on August 1 for $159.99 a price tag gets you 321 pieces to build, two motors and a battery hub.

This is LEGO’s latest venture into connected toys and follows the recently launched Boost set that allows kids to build, code and app-control sets. LEGO Boost also retailed for $159.99.

The Powered Up range will be supplemented with the launch of the LEGO City Passenger Train and the LEGO City Cargo Train as well as the LEGO Duplo Steam Train and the LEGO Duplo Cargo Train.
