Like most of us, you’ve probably been harbouring dreams of owning a fine art collection of Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa or Van Gogh’s Starry Night for quite some time.

Now, thanks to a new board game from the Today Is Art Day team, you can as its Kickstarter project for its debut gaming title The Grand Museum of Art has just tipped its crowdfunding goal on Kickstarter.

The game has been designed to allow players to experience first hand what it is like to be a world class museum curator with game play that encourages them to get their hands on priceless pieces by hook or by crook.

The project hit more than double its original goal of £5,776 within three hours of going live on the crowfunding platform. With 32 days still remaining, the team behind the title is making its ambitions for the gaming market known.

David Beaulieu, CEO, Today Is Art Day, told ToyNews: “Our natural path from here would be offer this game to our network of museum shops, but we are also open to wider distribution. We currently self-publish it but we are always open to discussion with potential distributors.”

The game sees players adopt the role of Museum Director whose task, alongside a team of curators, is to keep the museum running, present grandiose exhibitions and attract crowds of visitors to save it from bankruptcy.

They amass popularity points by collecting famous artwork and presenting thematic exhibitions. The game includes 65 artwork cards to collect, 20 thematic exhibition cards, a trivia booklet with 130 questions and four game tokens inspired by famous sculptures such as Michelangelo’s David, the Venus de Milo and Rodin’s Thinker.

“Of our five Kickstarter campaigns, this is probably the most exciting one so far,” continued Beaulieu. “We have been working on this game for more than two years now and it has been quite a ride. We wanted to make this game beautiful, fun. Challenging and exciting to play.

‘I think we achieved just that. We don’t see many art-related board games on the market so we hope art enthusiasts and board game lovers will support this project.”

The Kickstarter campaign runs until August 19.
