EDITOR'S COMMENT: Chance of a lifetime

Following last week's Bananagate, it's back to business with a look ahead at this year's Inventors Workshop and your chance to make that life-changing pitch.

It’s been one week since THAT photo broke the internet, instigating an industry wide call to end what shall forever be known as Banana Lounging.

And for anyone who missed last week’s serving of Editor’s Comment and the photo to rival anything in Kim Kardashian’s portfolio, Banana Lounging is now defined as the act of one absolute banana, lounging on a beanbag and managing to spin a lead column out of it.

This may all be coming from a place of jealousy, of course. I too love a beanbag.

That said, there has been no time for lounging of any variety this past week, as already we have been busy making preparations for September’s Inventors Workshop.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural Workshop, an event in which we offered inventors young and old the chance to come together for a one day conference and pitching session with some of the world’s biggest toy firms, we are now aiming to take it to the next level.

And that means bigger, and better.

To do this, we have decided to take it into a bigger venue (Northampton’s Whittlebury Hall), where more than 40 of the most innovative and influential toy and game manufacturers, technology companies and financial houses will present, discuss and connect with you guys, the rising stars of the industry.

While we don’t want to give too much away just yet, suffice to say that the line-up is looking – how you say – saucy, with leading toy and game experts, industry veterans and creators of some of the world's biggest toys all jumping on board the Inventors Workshop express train.

From Working With Tech and The Importance of Innovation to The Truth About Crowdfunding, we will be offering a roster of talks designed to arm you to the hilt with information and inspiration.

But being so coy is a struggle, especially when it comes to discussing one of the world’s largest crowdfunding sites of today and how to leave your mark upon it. So in this week's Inventors Bulletin, we offer just a glimpse of what’s to come with Six Steps to Kickstarter Success from those who have emerged triumphant, as well as some truths about the hard work behind crowdsourcing your projects.

Of course, that’s not all Inventors Workshop will have to offer, don’t forget there’s also the chance to pitch your ideas and prototypes in what could be life changing one-on-one sessions with our roster of toy manufacturers.

The date is set for September 22nd, so get finalising those ideas, researching your market, fine-tuning your pitch.

That's all from me this week. Thanks for reading (even if you did have to make do without an image of a Sue Perkins lookalike sprawled on a Banana shaped beanbag in sight) and stay tuned to Bulletin over the next few weeks for an announcement as to how to snap up Workshop tickets.
