A toy inventor and name behind the collectable Bomtanka range has launched a Kickstarter project to raise funds for a second series of the marble-like toys.

Through the campaign, John Cattermole is hoping to raise £5,000 to help expand the range of 10 characters currently making up the Bomtanka collection.

By mixing the components of the characters, players can currently make up to 90 new toys. However, if the campaign is successful, Cattermole will introduce a further 10 characters, bringing the total number of configurations to 1000.

“The feedback I am getting [from focus groups and indie retailers including The Entertainer and WigWam Toys] is that we need to expand the range to maintain appeal,” Cattermole told ToyNews.

“Kickstarter is also a great opportunity to involve a wider audience in the creation of the next series.”

Following a sampling campaign with the UK toy chain, The Entertainer, Cattermole reports that several of the stores have sold-out of the Bomtanka toys.

The toy inventor is now keeping his fingers crossed for a re-order as well as keeping his eyes peeled for a development partner opportunity.

“This would mean we could market Bomtanka on a much bigger scale,” he said.

“I am also keen to promote the toys to schools as educational toys, so if there are any ToyNews readers who know of a school that might be interested, please let me know.”
