Bildy, a construction toy from British designer Jayne Bromfield, has passed its Kickstarter goal within 24 hours of the campaign being live.

After attending the ToyNews Inventors Workshop back in September, Bromfield launched Bildy onto the crowdfunding platform where it has been met with positivity.

Consisting of giant sized ‘building boards’ and connectors, Bildy enables kids from as young as three years old to build and play inside life-size structures.

It can be built in a number of ways such as a house, car, truck, tunnel and castle and its gender neutral colours have been designed to encourage girls to play with construction based toys as well as boys.

“There’s a big push for getting more girls to take up engineering subjects, but to do that they need to be introduced to STEM based toys at a young age," said Bromfield.

"Most construction toys are designed to appeal mainly to boys, but Bildy has been designed with young girls in mind too, so that they can also reap the benefits.”

Bromfield has also developed an app for Bildy called Bildy Town, available for iPad, which enables kids to design, build and explore similar structures online and then build and play in them for real.

“I first created Bildy as a way to encourage my daughters to play and learn from construction toys," added Bromfield.

"Although I see many benefits with tablets, I worried how much time they spent playing on them. So along with the construction kits I created an app that linked their online play to real physical play. It’s incredibly rewarding to see them build something out of their imagination and to then enjoy playing inside it.

"My eldest daughter loves to build things and then immediately take them back down in order to build something completely different whilst my youngest enjoys the role playing that naturally develops from building structures such as playhouses and forts”

The Kickstarter campaign ends on November 22nd. Check out the campaign video below:
