App-inspired board game Plague Inc smashes Kickstarter goal within days

A board game that finally allows players to bring the planet to the brink of destruction has smashed its crowdfunding goal on Kickstarter.

Plague Inc. is a tabletop adaptation of the hit app game of the same name and tasks players with the mission of infecting the world with a series of deadly diseases.

In a role reversal to the popular board game franchise Pandemic, in which players work together to cure the world’s outbreak of diseases, Plague Inc. sees players team to bring it to its knees at the hands of evolving pathogens.

Adapted from the popular mobile game that already boasts a fan base of over 70 million people around the world, the game has secured over 625 per cent of its original Kickstarter goal of $34,000.

With six days to go and a total of $214,551 already secured in pledges, game creator and man behind the original app game Plague Inc., James Vaughan has been ‘amazed by the response to the crowdfunding campaign.’

“I originally made Plague Inc. as a hobby and I have really wanted to turn it into a multiplayer board game for ages,” he told ToyNews.

“The response from players has been amazing. We got funded within hours of the campaign being launched.”

As according to Vaughan, the world of video games and board games becomes more and more entwined, the creator and founder of Ndemic Creations is currently in discussions to bring the game to the retail space.

“Plague Inc. is already a pretty big name out there thanks to the app game and I hope that when we eventually bring this board game adaptation to retail, we will attract both existing board game players and new players who like video gaming.”

Having smashed its crowdfunding goal within days of going live, Vaughan and the team are at work developing a number of expansions for the game.
