A project has landed on Kickstarter to raise funds for an app that allows users to create and customise mech figures which can then be 3D-printed into reality.

The Mech Maker app allows table top gaming fans the chance to create customised mech figures from thousands of parts and patterns. Users can choose a head, torso, two arms, and a pair of legs, as well as colours.

The app, from Imagimod, also allows users to design their own games to use the figures in, as well as play games designed by other Mech Maker users.

'3D printing is here,' reads a statement on the project page.

'This new technology allows us to deliver one totally unique figure, designed by you, instead of manufacturing thousands of the same toy as you see in retail stores.

'Mech Maker gives you the option to receive a full-colour plastic 3D print through the mail. Remember, you designed it and only you have it.'

Imagimod's Mech Maker campaign aims to raise $50,000 by June 1st, and has so far raised $4,690.
