Asda has reported a huge surge in sales of the Skylanders Giant toy line since the Easter period.

According to the retailer, there has almost been a 500 per cent increase in the average weekly sales of the Talking Plush items, as well as solid sales of the new Squishables line.

Activity kicked off in 310 Asda stores, where FSDUs of the products were positioned in the music, video and games aisles to target gamers.

"This in-store positioning and activity prompted fantastic sales for the Skylanders Giants range as a whole and as a result we have allocated permanent fixture space on shelf," said Richard Wall, boys buyer at Asda. "We're really pleased with its performance and delighted gamers are buying into the toy line."

Nick Thomas, commercial director at Vivid, added: "We're really pleased with how the Skylanders range is performing and it just goes to show how important the impact of correct in-store positioning is. Music, video and games is the perfect place to locate these toys to drive great sales."
