Taiwan-based Sonix Technology has filed the lawsuit with the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas against VTech Electronics North America and VTech Holdings, alleging infringement of its patent related to optical identification (OID) products.

Sonix said it developed its first-generation OID chips used in educational electronics devices in 2002.

The company further introduced second-generation products in 2006 and third-generation products, which enable audio functions, in 2009.

OID products brought in revenues of $5-5.62 million in 2009, and are expected to see significant growth in 2010, according to Sonix.
