Attendance, exhibitors and over all floor space of the UK Games Expo 2018 has surged 30 per cent on last year’s show.

The show – an annual gathering of the UK’s board, tabletop and hobby gaming enthusiasts and industry folk – has grown year-on-year since the date of its conception, mirroring the steady growth of the hobby here in the UK.

Now in its 12 year, UK Games Expo has grown to such a size – taking residence in Birmingham’s NEC for a three-day weekend – that it is now eight and a half times the size of its first show in 2006.

UK Games Expo has reported a record number of visitors, totalling 21,700 across the three days, while attendee numbers – including exhibitors and press – hit 39,000. It has highlighted the strength and the growing popularity of th board gaming space among enthusiasts and more casual gamers alike.

“We have a lot to now work through and process ahead of the next UK Games Expo but we are delighted by the growth in the event and the genuine excitement and positive response,” Richard Denning, UK Games Expo director and co-founder, told ToyNews.

“We have tried to create something here not quite Essen or Gencon, instead a British take on the tabletop games convention. I love cramming in more than folk can possibly do in a three-day weekend and something that is appreciated by both the fans of gaming as well as the industry.

“I think we are getting that pretty close to now.”

2018’s offering also boasted the largest family gaming zone in its history, inhabiting a record sized space within the halls and featuring first time show sponsor Haba and its collection of family-orientated games.

Imagination Gaming also returned to the zone to curate a series of games menus for families and youngsters in attendance across the three day show.

The show’s organisers have also confirmed that UK Games Expo will return to Birmingham’s NEC next year, running from May 31 to June 2.
