London's Olympia is set to play host to over 230 companies this week, as Toy Fair 2013 opens its doors, and celebrates its 60th anniversary.
Many of these will be showcasing new, never-seen-before products or updates on existing successful ranges: from smaller companies such as Traditional Garden Games, Scoobits and Cheeky Rascals, through to bigger names like Hasbro (which will unveil additions to its Nerf blaster line among others) and Tomy (which will take the wraps off Battroborg, the mini battling cyborg robots)
We've listed just ten of the top retail drivers at Toy Fair 2013 below.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Flair)
When ToyNews conducted its retail survey back in December, many independents said they couldn't wait to see new stock for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brand. The collection includes nine of the most popular character action figures, with a level of detail that Flair claims has never been seen before.
The range also includes an array of villains, vehicles, play-sets and role-play, plus a number of deluxe figures with sound effects and special collector's figures.
Crayola My First (Vivid)
Crayola enjoyed double-digit growth in 2012 and outsells any other UK kids stationery brand by over five to one. This year will see the launch of My First, a new range dedicated to 12-36 months and their first arts and crafts experiences. Items will include the TV advertised Touch Lites.
Legends of Chima (LEGO)
Another sure-fire hit for LEGO. New IP Legends of Chima is something of a first for the firm, being the fusion of an animal tribal world with a multiplatform play offering. The range is a combination of buildable figures, play-sets, 'Speedorz', board games and associated licensed product.
Fuze Wheel Writer (Re:creation)
Fuze is simple, but clever technology for ride-ons from US firm Sky Rocket Toys, and Re:creation is the official UK distributor.
The hero item is the Fuze Wheel Writer, which has been nominated for Outdoor Toy of the Toy in the US for 2013. It is essentially an LED light aid that clicks onto the spokes of a bicycle's rear wheel and, as the child pedals, it creates an animated, illuminated picture.
Join In and Play Tatty Puppy (Carte Blanche)
Launching in June, this is Carte Blanche's hero item for the year. The plush toy interacts with playful puppy sounds and movements when stroked on the head or back. Tatty Puppy also interacts with the latest app technology, enabling the pooch to respond to a free downloadable game.
It has 16 different movement combinations and makes sounds including yapping, panting, barking and a whimper.
Power Rangers MegaForce (Bandai)
2013 marks the 20th anniversary of Power Rangers and Bandai will be launching MegaForce to celebrate the milestone. The new range will include figures, vehicles and Megazords, which will be released in the autumn.
In a new development for the brand, collector cards are being introduced which will be used to unlock unique phrases and sounds in the new light up Deluxe Gosei Morpher. There will be over 160 to collect.
Fans will also be able to scan the cards using a free mobile app, access video clips and play with them in a new action card game.
Horrible Histories (Worlds Apart)
The new boys' collectable and interactive battle arena is the first in a range of toys based on the hit children's history book series.
The brand is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2013. Worlds Aparts' line will include iconic characters from the Roman and Egyptian era, creating a range of figures and battle arenas that combine action and collactable heroes, as well as strategy for older boys. There will also be armies, accessories and game cards.
The new Evolution line uses traditional Meccano components to build even more realistic. Real working components include jacks, gears and pistons that enable fluid and realistic movements.
There are five models, including three entry level, one mid range and the most technically advanced in the line, the Evolution Helicopter.
Laser Pegs (Goldfish & Bison)
Laser Pegs - the patented range of illuminated construction toys - will be the centrepiece of the extended Goldfish & Bison portfolio.
Having already enjoyed success in the US, Laser Pegs will hit the UK and Europe in the autumn. Each set comes with multiple suggestions for a range of models, and additional instructions are available to download. There is also an app which accompanies the range.
These small collectable toys can be attached with a Velcro loop strap to backpacks, flip flops, fingers, toes and clothes, and have the potential to be a major hit.
The range will eventually reach 200 different characters, with Floppets having already notched up over 1.2 million sales in the US.
