Following the news that Mattel's Fisher Price is taking over as master toy licensee from next year, Tomy has released a statement clarifying its own position with regards to its Thomas products.

Robert Mann, CEO, Tomy Europe, commented: "The announcement that Fisher Price will be a new licensee for Thomas Preschool and Trackmaster in 2010 is positive news for the Thomas & Friends brand and its future within the USA.

"Tomy Europe's license will continue as normal, but will not be renewed in 2011. Our new Thomas Preschool and Trackmaster product introductions for 2009 and 2010 will ensure the momentum of Thomas & Friends will continue strongly and maintain its leading position in the pre-school licensing charts during this period.

"With an already expanding portfolio of successful licenses, Tomy will be actively seeking new license and business partners who are keen to work with a European team and replicate the success of our Thomas & Friends business model."
