One of the men behind the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has given his seal of approval to the new line of action figures and play-sets by Playmates.

Speaking to sister publication Licensing.biz at Brand Licensing Europe 2012, Kevin Eastman, co-creator of the original Turtles, said: “I think the new toys are awesome. I love them.”

“What I love is – when you look at the design of the animated characters it’s a lot like the first comics, so it’s really taking it back to its roots – and Playmates have managed to capture that style perfectly.”

Kevin Magallanes, senior vice president, animation, at new series creator Nickelodeon said: “The action figures are my favourite. It is amazing to see what Playmates has done with our version.

“We’ve just started to launch the toys and I know they’re doing very well. The momentum is just starting up and its just going to get bigger and bigger. The more episodes we show, the bigger it gets and it’s going to keep going.

“They’re just great, I relish these things.”

Eastman concurred: “It definitely brings out the geek in all of us.”

He added: “My wife took the kids to buy some of the Playmates toys and they were only able to get one of the figures as the rest had sold out.”
