Each competitor at the championships will play 41.5 hours of Scrabble in the lead up to the final on Sunday October 16th.

A British player last won the Championships 18 years ago, but this year there are 18 Brits amongst the 106 competitors, so a trophy could be back in the UK soon.

@worldscrabble11 on Twitter will update the world on all the weirdest words, funniest facts and live results from the Scrabble World Championships in Poland, for example:

Over the course of Scrabble’s 60 year history, over 150 million sets have been produced and sold in over 121 countries.

When placed end to end, all the tiles ever produced would reach the equivalent of 8 times around the earth.

Somewhere in the world there are over a million missing Scrabble tiles…imagine how many points they could be worth!

What to Stephen Fry, Robbie Williams, Chris Evans and Kylie Minogue have in common? They all love Scrabble!
