The LEGO Movie becomes first film to reach $400m in 2014

The LEGO Movie has become the first film to pass the $400m at the global box office in 2014.

Warner Bros' animated hit has now taken $248.3m in the US and $152.2m internationally for a worldwide total of $400.5m to date.

“The LEGO Movie opened big and has maintained an impressive hold on the market, attracting new fans as well as repeat business from positive word of mouth," said Warner Bros domestic distribution president Dan Fellman.

"This latest milestone is a fitting testament to all the talented and dedicated people who put so much of themselves into this extraordinary film, and we congratulate them on their well-earned success.”

Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, president of international distribution at Warner Bros added: “The LEGO Movie has been a strong competitor in the international arena, proving the appeal of unique, funny and creative storytelling across generations and cultures.

"We are confident it will continue to perform robustly in our overseas markets, including those yet to open, as people around the world discover it for themselves.”

A sequel is already in the worksand The LEGO Movie looks likely to add to this as the film opens in Australia and Germany in April.
