Reminiscant of 101 Dalmations, Bandai UK has delivered 101 TechPets to Harrods to celebrate the launch of its latest toy.
The product will go on sale in the Toy Kingdom this Saturday, where it will also be on special demonstration.
The toy incorporates either an iPhone or iPod touch and features Tamagotchi-style gameplay. It can perform tricks on command, triggered by voice and image recognition. It can walk, wag its tail, sing and dance. The more it’s interacted with, the more functions are unlocked.
The free TechPet app is free from the iTunes store and can be used apart from the toy.
Bandai UK cited research which shows that one in ten children under the age of ten own an iPhone. "The toy industry is rapidly turning to technology based toys to satisfy children's growing enthusiasm in the sector,” Bandai concluded.
Marketing director at Bandai, Darrell Jones, said: "We are really excited about the launch of TechPet, our new app based puppy. It really is a toy for this tech savvy generation and we expect to see it cropping up on plenty of Christmas lists."
Bandai unveiled TechPet at the Toyko toy show in June and now the product looks set to sell more than 50,000 units in Japan before the end of the year.
