Spin Master’s Tech Deck toy brand is sponsoring the 2012 Young Guns National Skateboarding Championships.
The event runs from June 10th, where the Southwest/Wales Qualifiers takes place at Exist Skatepark in Swansea. There will also be the Northern/Scottish Qualifiers at Transgression Skatepark in Edinburgh on July 1st.
The South East/UK Qualifiers and the final will take place on July 22nd at XC Skatepark in Hemel Hempstead.
The show is organised and judged by Nic Powley of Backroom Operations and editor of Sidewalk magazine Ben Powell.
“We are delighted to continue our sponsorship of Young Guns and extend the geographical coverage of the event, giving more kids the opportunity to compete,” said Tech Deck marketing manager Stuart Picton.
“Tech Deck is currently celebrating its fifth consecutive year of consumer sales growth and we believe the unique authenticity of the product, combined with the brand’s close links with the skateboarding community, is a key factor in its continued and growing popularity.”
Nic Powley added: “By supporting the Young Guns competition from day one, Tech Deck has encouraged skateboarding at a grass roots level and helped a bunch of hopefuls towards sponsored skateboarding.
“Young Guns was started to give the new generations a platform to display their skateboarding skills and as a first competition to act as a gateway into the UK skate scene.
“It's such a huge success, that the top three from last year’s under 16s are all now sponsored skateboarders, partly due to exposure gained via the Young Guns platform. With this year’s competition expanding into a series, there's an even bigger opportunity to discover new talent.”
Tech Deck and Spin Master have been sponsors of skateboarding events for years including other championships, activities at holiday camps and school programs.
